Holy Tuesday: The Holy Exchange
Scripture: Matthew 21-25, Mark 11-13, and Luke 20-21
Historical Happenings:
On Holy Tuesday, Jesus returns to the very temple He flipped tables in the day before. This time, He spends much of His moments in the temple teaching while facing questions, traps, and challenges from religious leaders. Yet He responds with clarity and authority, pointing everything back to what matters most: loving God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and loving your neighbor as yourself.
Included in these teachings are some of the most revealing truths I call the “ways’ and the “woes”. Jesus taught encouraging truths through parables on the WAYS He desired His followers to live after His departure. He also dropped convicting truths of WOES to the religious leaders on their way of living that needed to change.
Devotional Thought:
What love Jesus expressed by simply returning to the very temple He angrily rebuked the day before. He had no desire to leave it in that condition. He showed up with a Holy Exchange. In His teachings He would reveal that He would tear it down BUT He would build it back up again. Even to the religious leaders He was trying to remove things in their hearts just like he did physically in the temple. Just as Jesus cleaned out the temple yet returned to fill it with His Word, He loves each of us enough to remove things in our lives but He will never leave us empty. That's the Holy Exchange.
Nothing that Jesus did was wasted. Every ACTION and every TEACHING came with purpose and Devine revelation.
In a world full of competing voices, it can be tempting to soften truth or stay silent. But Jesus shows us that truth and love are not opposites, they go hand in hand. Even in the face of pressure and opposition, Jesus never watered down the truth. He lived it fully and spoke it faithfully.
Reflection:
Where is God calling you to live out your faith more boldly, yet lovingly? Would Jesus need to teach you His “ways” or His “woes?”
Prayer:
“Lord, help me to love You with all that I am. Help me to surrender the things that clutter up my time, my talents and my gifts. In return help me to accept, submit and walk in everything you give me in exchange. Give me courage to live out Your truth with grace, and to reflect Your love to those around me.”

May He help me to never water down the Word and to openly live it and share it often!
